4 Ways To Deal With Mosquitos

Lynn Lee

Mosquitos can make using your outdoor areas uncomfortable. Luckily, there are things you can do to get rid of the mosquitos and keep them away. You are going to want to get rid of things that allow mosquitos to thrive, like standing water, and you are going to want to take steps to repel and keep the mosquitos away.

Way #1: Get Rid of Standing Water

One of the best things you can do is get rid of standing water. Mosquitos love standing water; water provides a space for them to lay their eggs and continue their dominance of your yard. You will want to make sure you don't have standing water around the outside of your home. Mosquitos don't need a lot of standing water; a little water collected in a bucket or overturned lid is more than enough space for them to lay eggs.

Work to make sure you don't allow water to collect in objects around the outside of your home. Also, keep your gutters clean so that water doesn't build up there as well. If you have a pet with an outside water bowl, change the water every day.

Way #2: Plan Mosquito Repelling Plants

Like most living things, mosquitos have some things that they like and things that they don't like. There are many plants that you can put in your yard that will help keep the mosquitos away. For example, plants such as catnip, marigolds, ageratum, and horsemint are all plants that can help to repel mosquitoes. You can plant them in your yard, or you can put them in moveable flowerpots.

Way #3: Spray Repellant

Third, you can hire a mosquito service to come out and spray repellant. They can spray repellant around your yard that will last for a while and help kill the present bugs and keep new mosquitoes away from your home. With a spray repellant, you are more than likely going to need a few applications throughout the year for it to be effective.

Way #4: Use a Mosquitoes Trap

Fourth you can have a pest control company set-up a mosquito trap. A mosquito trap is designed to let out carbon dioxide, which mosquitoes are attracted to. When the mosquito gets close, they are sucked into the machine and killed.

If you don't want mosquitos around your property, you need to make sure you don't have any standing water on your property. You should plant mosquito repelling plants, and you should work with a pest controls service to keep your property mosquito clear.
