If a tree service company had to cut a tree down in your yard because it was diseased, dying, etc., then you may have been left with a tree stump. There are many things you can do with the stump, three of which are listed below.
Remove the Stump
If you do not want the stump in your yard at all, the tree service company can remove it for you. How they do this depends on how large the stump is. If it is tall, they first use a hand or electric ax to chop away as much of the stump as they can. Once this is finished, they use a grinding machine to grind the stump down. When they are finished, it will look like small wood chips. If the tree was not diseased, you can use these wood chips as mulch for a flower garden, which can be beneficial to prevent weeds from growing and provide flowers with more moisture. Some of the tree roots may be left behind. If so, the contractor cuts away as much of these as they can. If not, the tree may grow again. The roots can spread, and you may see the tree sprout in another area of your yard.
Use as a Planter
You can hollow out the tree stump to use it as a planter. Plant some flowers that overflow, such as petunias, vincas, and much more. Just make sure you plant native flowers so they will grow well for you. This makes the tree stump look decorative in your yard. Along with hollowing it out, put containers of flowers around the tree stump for even more color. You can choose the same flower you planted inside the stump or choose a different flower. Choose colors that go well together or mix the colors up.
Use as Art
You can paint the tree stump with exterior paint to make it look beautiful. Paint flowers or other designs on the stump. If you have children, they will have a great time doing this on their own. They could paint a checkerboard on top of the stump so they can play a game. Purchase a variety of paint for the children and let them choose the colors, designs, etc., they want to use. You may be surprised at the things they will come up with.
